The 3 Steps to NLP Reframing. How Shifting Your Perspective Can Permanently Destroy Your Limiting Beliefs
Have you ever struggled with nagging thoughts or beliefs that keeps resurfacing and won’t go away?
The NLP technique known as ‘Reframing’ has been used for decades by the world’s top coaches to break negative thought patterns.
Here are 3 steps to permanently turn those pesky beliefs inside out:
Step 1- Identify The Perspective of Your Inner Critic.
Write down a negative thought from your inner critic.
I like to imagine the inner critic as that cartoon devil, sitting on one of your shoulders.
For example “I always mess things up.”
Step 2- Challenge & Question The Thought.
Next, try to find some evidence that contradicts this belief or thought.
For example, ask yourself ‘Is this statement ACTUALLY true?’
‘Does it ALWAYS happen?’
‘Could there be another explanation for this?’
‘Might I be exaggerating this a bit?
Step 3- Create a New, Empowering Perspective
Now we adopt the mindset of our higher self (think cartoon angel on the other shoulder).
If that’s too spiritual for you try taking on the perspective of your subconscious mind, that only wants the best for you.
Ask the question ‘ What would my Higher Self/Unconscious mind say about this?’
Then reframe or shift the thought into something more positive.
For Example: Instead of “I always mess up,” say, “Every mistake is a chance to learn and improve. Every day I am getting better at this.”
By practising this regularly, you rewire your mind to automatically look for a more positive perspective.
