An Easy Framework For Remembering Your Dreams (The Vital 1st Step to Lucid Dreaming)
I have been practising dream recall for a long time.
Along the way, I have done all sorts of things to try to get better:
- Read lots of books like ‘Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by Stephen Laberge
- Listen to Podcasts like The Dream On Podcast
- Watch hours of YouTube videos
And all of these things helped me a ton.
But if I had to start all over again, this is the simple framework I wish I had for learning how to remember my dreams:
Step 1: Setting Your Intention before bed
Set your intention to remember your dreams and repeat an affirmation like ‘I will remember my dreams when I wake up’. This will help prime your subconscious.
Step 2: Keeping a Dream Journal Close By
I have found that the best way to record dreams is to have a phone within easy reach and to dictate the dream, transcribing it into a notes app (Notion is great for this). This way you can keep your eyes closed and focus on the dream without it slipping away. Another tip is to try not to move around too much when you wake up. Keep as still as possible and try to recreate last night’s dream.
Step 3: Review Your Dreams Regularly
This will help you to notice patterns. The more attention you can give your dreams, the more you are showing your subconscious that remembering them is important to you.
If you can practice these 3 steps, the next time you have a lucid dream you will remember it.
