1 Big Mistake I Made When I Was First Getting Started In Self-Development
Like most beginners, I made a lot of mistakes when starting out.
But this was the biggest one, by far:
Consuming Too Much Information Without Taking Action
Here’s what would happen:
I would read lots of self-help books, motivational videos and podcasts and would ride that initial wave of inspiration that would accompany every new goal. But as soon as I was nearing the end of the book or course, the information would become a slog to get through and exercises started to get skipped and then abandoned. A new shinier piece of content would pop up on my feed and the cycle of inspiration would start again. I would get stuck in learning mode without applying what I had learned.
But it’s also worth acknowledging that making this mistake taught me a ton.
Now I always take notes on every new book or video I watch and then try to distil that information into practical steps that I can at least experiment with. It doesn’t always give me the result I want but at least I have extracted and acted upon some wisdom that could have become theoretical and never experienced.
This is why I encourage everyone to see their mistakes (and “failures”) as necessary steps along the path.
There is always a lesson to be learned.
